One morning this Paris Fashion Week, I found myself making some unusual plans. I was one of few editors on the ground during the city’s first shows post-lockdown. Unlike the traditional schedule I know like the back of my hand, everything suddenly felt like a first. That morning, I had a nonsensical realization: In order to watch the digital Balenciaga presentation and make it to my physical Givenchy preview, I had to get in my car an hour ahead of time, park outside Givenchy HQ, watch the Balenciaga film on my phone, conduct my usual backstage interview with Demna Gvasalia over email, and head straight into Givenchy. There, I saw with my own eyes a collection my colleagues largely experienced through previews over Zoom. I bet they couldn’t see the embroideries very well.
Spotted in TriBeCa earlier today while enjoying a morning coffee run, Ratajkowski wore a striking suit of her own design. The jet black cropped blazer and wide-leg pants were part of her recently released collaboration with the online retailer, Nasty Gal. With its oversized shoulder pads, notched lapels, and belly-baring silhouette, her jacket nodded to 1980s-style power dressing without seeming retro. Paired with the loose, high-waisted pants, it felt modern. Dressy enough to be worn at a meeting, but understated enough to throw on while working from home, the pieces made for a winning combo. Emily Ratajkowski’s schedule is seemingly non-stop. An entrepreneur and actress, in addition to being one of the world’s most recognizable models, Ratajkowski is frequently photographed en route to meetings and castings. When she’s in a professional setting, the California-bred star always puts her best foot forward, thanks to her robust collection of blazers and suits. Never one for stuffy fashion, she focuses on pieces that rethink the idea of workwear, such as slouchy pant suits worn with crop tops, belted jackets worn with miniskirts, and even menswear-inspired dresses. Suffice to say she’s got the whole business-casual thing figured out, and her latest look proves it.
In July 2016, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went on a blind first date at the Dean Street Townhouse in London. Who set them up is still a matter of debate—some rumors suggest Ralph Lauren public relations director Violet von Westenholz, others point to designer Misha Nonoo. Whomever it was, however, was spot on: “I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her,” Harry later admitted to the BBC. A few weeks later, they jetted off to Botswana, so they could get to know each other away from prying eyes. “It was absolutely fantastic,” said Harry. There, they fell in love—and come November 2017, their engagement became public. In sophomore year, they lived in the same off-campus house, and that’s where the two really fell in love. They’d stay an item throughout university, and despite a short breakup in 2007, got engaged in 2010. Things began to heat up in 2002, when Middleton famously walked in a charity fashion show in a see-through dress. “Kate’s hot,” William is said to have whispered to a friend. However, at the time, Middleton was still dating someone else.
